A patient comes full circle
On July 17, 2021, Carolyn Beamon walked into Wildflower Clinic feeling like she might not live to see another year. "I needed a lot of help, medically," she explains, "and I didn't know where to start. Not having insurance in this world is like being put in a box and forgotten about until you expire. I, as a person, had an expiration date."
Carolyn met Wildflower's Executive Director Michelle Colee, who was adamant that Carolyn go to the ER. "She genuinely cared about how I felt and whether I lived or died. I did go, and they ended up admitting me."
With follow-up treatment from Wildflower, Carolyn was able to get on a regular self care routine, and begin working with our volunteer cardiologist and a Wildflower-referred rheumatologist.
Now, three years later, Carolyn states that "I have regained my strength, my medication regimen has my heart beating at close to normal rhythms, and my autoimmune system is not kicking up as much. This is all due to the services of Wildflower!"
Carolyn also had dental work completed at Wildflower's mobile dental clinic, and is working with our dentists to receive partial dentures. She has also received glasses through our vision screenings and Vision is Priceless.
With restored vision and a new smile, Carolyn was ready to re-enter the workforce. She applied for and was hired to be our new Community Health Associate, helping other patients receive services beyond medical and dental through a strong network of community partners.
"I arrived broken," Carolyn states, "and now am able to help those who feel as I did when I wanted to give up. I would like to personally thank Michelle and the staff of Wildflower Healthcare for making me whole again, so that I am able to give back to the clinic and pay it forward to many patients who are in the same position I was in. If they just stick with the plan and follow through with all that is offered, they too can have a new lease on life."
